I drove up to Oakland for Andrea and Linh’s wedding, mostly because I wanted to drive back to LA along the California coast. This is a loooong drive! But I love doing it when I get the chance – and when I can get up early enough! I woke up at five am and made it back to LA around 7. Partly because I had to stop and take pictures (of course) but also because the traffic between Santa Barbara and LA was a nightmare. It was, after all, a holiday weekend.
The weather was pretty dreary and grey at first – I was a little disappointed about the lack of blue skies, but it makes for some nice monotone black and white images.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse

Some seals hanging out on the rocks.

The lighthouse – it’s all fenced off so you can’t get too close to it.

Finally some blue skies!

Near Hearst Castle. I think these animals are soooo ugly that they’re fascinating!

Andrea and Linh had their ceremony and reception at their home in Oakland. The wedding was a small ceremony for family only, and then everyone joined in for the barbecue and musical performances.
The program . . .

Family came forward to give well-wishes and advice to the couple.

Franz wanted portraits in his Navy uniform, so we headed out to Cal Poly Pomona to take some pictures. It was a pretty hot day to be wearing such a heavy uniform, but Franz powered through.

I have been squirreled away working on my new website. The new blog colors are a sneak peak of the new website. The website won’t be super different – different colors, yes. But the layout is basically the same – slideshows of my work, and links to other slideshows showing different work.
I’ve ditched my much-loved warm color palette for nuetral grays and whites – I love yellow and orange, but I think white, grey, and black provide a better background for viewing photos. I’m also using a different content managing system, which should enable the slideshows to load faster.
I know, geek speak! But I’m really excited about the new site and can’t wait to launch it.

I shot Jason and Heather’s wedding at the end of June at the Callaway Winery in Temecula, CA. Their wedding was a lot of fun! If only I could have been partaking of some of that wine . . . .

The guys had to get in on the kissing action!

The best man gave Heather a gift: Jason’s – uhm, his manhood – in a jar.

Trepidation over the cake feeding.

The maid of honor – and the bride’s sister – was the lucky bouquet winner.

Jessica and Ramy had their engagement party at The Reef Restaurant in Long Beach, CA. The party began with a prayer service and ended witih some pretty wild dancing. I shot the event for AAcreation Photography.

Jessica’s father was already ready to take pictures!

Courtney and Philip had their wedding at a vacation home in Palm Springs on Memorial Day weekend. It was super windy that evening! But the wind not withstanding, they had a wonderful ceremony and reception with their friends and family.

Peeking out at the guests.

Pre-wedding toast with the couple and the wedding party.

The bridesmaids had fabulous parasols.

The ring caused some difficulties . . . .

Courtney and Philip had cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake.

Just one of those things that is incredibly mundane for most people, but incredibly exciting for me. I received my new business cards in the mail and couldn’t be happier with them. They have foil printing, which you can’t really appreciate by looking at a computer screen. But the logo and the squares are glittery little flecks of color.
I’m looking to redesign the website and blog – debating whether to go with tweaks here and there with the colors and layouts, or whether I should go for a full out conceptual overhaul. I’ll probably do the former first and the latter later. If I can find someone whose skills are up to the task.

I photographed a friend’s baby shower a few weeks ago. Audrey is due in July. The shower was a lot of fun, and the games – well, I’m glad I had a camera in my hand so that I didn’t have to smell food smashed into baby diapers. Thanks to Naomi for organizing such a great party!

The guests decorated onesies for the new baby.

Decorating a quilt.

I think Kirsten was a bit obsessed with Audrey’s belly . . . .

The diaper game! Miso, chocolate bars, barbecue sauce – all smeared into baby diapers.

Checking to see who got the most right.

Pregnant for a few moments . . . put a balloon under your shirt and try to tie your shoes.

Drinking juice out of baby bottles – this took a loooooong time.

Cheers!

That game where you can’t say baby, and if you say baby, someone takes your pacifier necklace? It got pretty competitive.

I’ve finally finished setting up my online client access system. Now clients can electronically sign their contracts and make payments online, all from their personalized client access page. I’m using a web-based studio management system, rather than software that runs from my computer. And I’m looking for even more ways to join “the cloud.”
A few months ago I read an interesting article in Slate about cloud computing. The idea is that you can chuck your computer out the window, watch it smash into tiny little pieces, and think nothing of it. Why? Because all your data, your photos, your files, your digital life, are stored on the web instead of on your hard drive. A smashed computer means bits of plastic lying in the street; it doesn’t mean your life as you know it has disappeared forever.
Unless Adobe comes out with web-based versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and InDesign, I won’t be giving up my desktop anytime soon. But I recently purchased a very tiny, very cute netbook that I plan to tote around with me for client meetings and photography shoots. We’ll see how much of the cloud I connect with when I’m jetting about town.
