Welcome to the Sonialena Photography Blog!

Thanks for taking a moment to visit my blog!

This blog chronicles my adventures as a wedding and portrait photographer. I'm based in Southern California but will happily and gladly travel to other parts of the universe.

My blog is also a place for me to share some of the personal photography that I do, as well as sound off on various topics that are tangentially related to photography.

If you're inspired to write a comment or send an e-mail my way, I would love to hear from you!

Portraits: Blended #15

I took photos of Andrea and Linh while I was in the bay area. Linh and I went to UCLA together many years ago – more than I care to say! Linh was born in Vietnam and grew up in Orange county. Andrea is of Japanese descent; she grew up in Richmond California. Her father’s family is from Peru and she is fluent in Spanish. We took these pictures in San Francisco.

January 21, 2009 - 3:38 pm Sonia - Yes, I had that post on my old blog but removed it. To summarize: 1) duplicate the photo on a new layer, 2) apply a heavy gaussian blur to the top layer (radius of about 40 pixels), 3) change the blend mode of the top layer to "overlay" (for a stronger effect) or "soft light" (for a more subtle effect), 4) reduce the opacity of the top layer to about 52%, more or less depending on your taste. If you have any questions, please let me know!

January 21, 2009 - 12:49 pm Whit - Did you write a post that had a photoshop tip on making a duplicate layer and adding a blend overlay with a blur and low opacity?
